Food brings people together across age, gender, and culture. It nourishes not only our bodies, but also our souls and shared social vocabulary. Food is fuel as it helps us move forward, binding us in moments of joy and grief alike. It fosters connection and builds communities, even as it intersects with urgent global issues such as the climate crisis and political instability.
From F. T. Marinetti’s Manifesto of Futurist Cookery to Rirkrit Tiravanija’s communal cooking sessions, artists have long incorporated food into their creative practices. Acts of hospitality and conviviality emerge from the simple, yet radical gesture of sharing a meal. To feed someone is the first form of care and love, the very first gesture a human makes after birth.
In the context of an art fair, this gesture becomes a performative act, blurring the boundaries between the pleasure of viewing art and the pleasure of eating. Within this temporary gathering, a sense of community forms, fleeting & meaningful.
This group exhibition brings together 26 artists to explore the ways in which food is intertwined with personal and cultural legacies. Approaching the subject through poetic, political, and environmental perspectives, the works on view distill the bitter-sweet flavors of food— both literal and symbolic.
In the absurd and surreal reality we inhabit, Meret Oppenheim’s 1936 Object has served as a powerful inspiration for the show. Much like her iconic fur-covered teacup, saucer, and spoon, the exhibition presents unexpected juxtapositions, between artworks, evoked tastes, and layered cultural fermentations.
A collaborative exhibition between: H’art, Ivan Gallery, Jecza Gallery, Mobius, Anca Poterașu Gallery, SAC, Sector 1 Gallery and Suprainfinit Gallery
