Sorin Neamțu (b. 1977, Făgăraș) is an artist based in Timișoara whose practice extends from drawing and painting into performance, objects, and installation, probing the shift from figuration to abstraction and from pictorial flatness to embossed proportions in a lucid, yet meditative register. Working with lines as a medium that builds tension between surface and volume, he contemplates registers of both attention and withdrawal. Encounters for him happen at the level of details, giving birth to affects that are simultaneously welcoming and claustrating for the viewer. In his work, space becomes a play so necessary during times of intensified pressure, where rehearsals for  alternative ways of cotidian habitation can happen.
